Author's Debut Novel Optioned by James Cameron

An author by the name of Taylor Stevens was recently approached by James Cameron's company Lightstorm Entertainment to option her debut novel, The Informationist. With this option, Cameron has the goal of producing and directing the project with 20th Century Fox after he wraps up the Avatar sequels.

James Cameron is famous for his strong female leading roles in movies such as Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Dark Angel, and Alien. Cameron has taken a liking to Stevens' novel, whose main character has been compared to Stieg Larsson's Lisbeth Salander.

Despite the fact that earlier this year Cameron made an announcement that he only intended to make Avatar movies in the foreseeable future, the heroine Vanessa Michael Munroe in Stevens' book and the sequel, The Innocent apparently changed the film producer and director's mind. The Titanic producer and director and his co-producer Jon Landau plans to hire a screenwriter for the film in the near future.

Having your debut novel optioned by such a film legend such as James Cameron is every author's dream come true. This story is somewhat similar to what British author J.K. Rowling experienced when she wrote the Harry Potter series, which has sold around 450 million copies worldwide as of June of 2011, and which has been produced into the highest grossing film series of all time, not to mention the Harry Potter merchandise that is worth in excess of $15 billion dollars.

J.K. Rowling completed Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 1995, and her manuscript had been rejected by eight publishers before it was picked up by Bloomsbury and turned into the household name that is today. The ideas for the infamous Harry Potter series were dreamed up one day by the author as she sat on a delayed train waiting for four hours.
